WOOD CARVING Native Tribal Nose Flute Player, 24 inches, Philippines for sale in Santa Monica, CA

1 of 10

WOOD CARVING of Nose Flute Player dressed in traditional tribal attire. 24” tall, carved from a single piece of Monkey Pod wood, a hard and heavy semi-tropical wood. Subject is an indigenous Pilipino nose flute player from the hills of northern Luzon with his dog. I purchased this stunning piece during one of my several visits to Baguio City, in northern Luzon, starting in 1980. This spectacular piece was carved by Pedro Pihac in 1981.  Pedro is from Banaue (mt. province) and is part of the Ifugao Tribe, known for their wood carving talents. Pedro was the best and after finishing this piece he was whisked off to the Middle East to live as the personal carver to some sheik. This was his last and finest piece before leaving the Philippines. It has been a show piece of mine for decades but now I’m moving and trimming to the bone. Your chance for a piece by a master indigenous tribal carver.
